My username used to be terricox and I was trying to find documented evidence that John Haddix is my grandmother Leona VanScoy's birth father. Based on cemetary records, he was married to someone else, other than my great grandmother, Dessie Corrick. John died 6 months after my grandmother Leona was born. Dessie married a VanScoy and he raised Leona as his own. My theory is that John was married and got Dessie pregnant, out of wedlock. He died in the mine 6 months after Leona's birth. Dessie had to have help w/ the baby and a VanScoy (there are connections w/ this family and mine a generation back) married her to take care of them. My grandmother (Leona) had shown me his name, hand written in a book (maybe a bible), and my family cant find it. But I remembered her telling me about it very clearly. And it's too much of a coincidence that he died close to her birth (which is the story everyone in my family knows). Geneaology! is very frustrating, particularly when the line ends so quickly....
