I show her as the daughter of Dessie Corrick And William Stephen Vanscoy. She married Lenzy Thomas Bright and they had 3 children. I have no knowledge of a John Haddix but am going to recheck rootsweb.com World Connect as I noticed that there are over 500 entries under his name. I am not in contact with anyone who knew Dessie. If there is something else you need, just let me know. Regards, Dick

You probably wouldn't have ever heard of John Haddix. But I'm sure that Dessie and a John Haddix were the parents of my grandmother, but since she was born so close to her death, I assume that nothing was made "official". My grandmother told me directly that he was her biological father and that he was killed in a mining accident. I have found the records of his death, but just can't make much of a connection between him and Dessie. Closest that I have come is a census from when my grandmother was about 1 yr old & her last name then was Haddix & she was listed as the dependant of William VanScoy (Maud Haddix). I know that my grandmother considered William VanScoy to be her "father" because he raised her as his child. I found another connection to the VanScoy family (blood) a couple of generations back, so I think the families were close. Do you happen to know anyone who knew Dessie? I appreciate your help!

I have located the *Washington Post article that contains info on John Haddix's death. Unfortunately, the article does not list his surviving relatives! I'm thinking that even though his death was about 5 months beyond the birth date of my grandmother, they were not married (I can't find any records of John Haddix and Dessie Corrick marrying). His birth would have been around 1877. Does anyone know for sure who this John Haddix's parents are? **(Wash Post article attached - 2nd column, bottom of page) Thanks for your help!

He was the biological father of my grandmother (Leona Maud VanScoy - 1910 census image attached). His name, I think, was John Haddix. He was said to have died in a coal mining accident just before she was born (b: Feb 14 1909). So, I'm thinking that John would have been born around 1870-1890. His death was listed in the Mining Safety reports & showed the company name "Consolidated Mining Company". He was a "Shot Firer" & was the lone person in the accident (fall of rock). I cannot find any genealogy records for him - - only this record of the accident. Her mother (possibly briefly married to John, but unknown) was Dessie Corrick (later married William VanScoy. They were likely in Randolph Cty WV. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Surnames: Reed, Haddix, Channell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AIh.2ACIB/108 Message Board Post: I am looking for information regarding the birth and especially death of Elizabeth Reed Haddix Channell of WV. Elizabeth was married to John Haddix. She had several children, one of whom was Enoch Haddix, who fought in the Civil War and was married to Matilda Channell. After John's death, Elizabeth was married to Jonathan Channell (Matilda's father) in Barbour County in 1864. I'm trying to fill out the Haddix portion of my family tree, and I'm missing quite a bit on Elizabeth (from Enoch down I'm doing OK). The specific things I'm looking for about Elizabeth are: 1. When and when was she born (the census data puts her birth c.1816 or so in Virginia)? 2. When and where did she marry John Haddix? When did he die? and most importantly: 3. When and where did Elizabeth die? She is in the 1880 Census, so I know it's after that date, but that's the last confirmed data point I have for her. I can find no record of her death or even Jonathan Channell's (I can find a lot of internet data that gives his death as April of 1873, but nowhere can I find an actual SOURCE for that information) Does anyone know what happened to Elizabeth? Glenn
