She was born in 1845 and is on the 1870 census for the Haddix family, but she does not show up on any other census before this (1850 - 1860)in that family. Anyone know who she is? Could she have been one of the mulatto slaves of William Haddix? Just curious, Philip K. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. WD doesn't necessarily mean widow. I have one line, where wife listed WD and husband had remarried with new wife and children. I never thought of the asylum or hospitals. the 1880 census shows America living with Callaway Haddix her husband. I do have a marriage record for them and I know James Callaway Haddix died about 1880. Kentucky is not an easy place to confirm research, but I think I have done every family in Breathitt Co. KY. At least it seems like it. Thank for the help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is estimated that they were married 1884, so they would not be in 1880 census, most places did not have one for 1890 and Isaac is with his children and mother in 1900. You might try looking for records of hospitals or asylums during that period. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I would like to know what happened to America (Crawford) Haddix. she has 2 children with Isaac Harvey before 1900. On the 1900 census Isaac Harvey is living with his 2 children. The only document I have is that son William M. Harvey's parents are Isaac Harvey and America Haddix. I can't find them on a census together and I do not have a marriage record for Isaad Harvey and America (Crawford) Haddix. I have been the the court house in Jackson, KY and they said the court house burned down 3 times. They have no records. This is a direct line for me. I too would like to solve this mistery. One maybe he was the son of one of his unwed sisters and the mother claimed him as hers so her daughter would not have to bear the shame, or mother had him out of wedlock since her husband was dead, or somehow they got his date of birth wrong. If you look at censuses they may have different dates of birth on 4 different occasions. We have a simular problem with our gggrandfather he died in 1851, and his first wife died in 1849. He remarried in 1850 and had a daughter born in 1853. But siblings from the first marriage listed her as their half sister. He was born in 1867 to Elizabeth Oaks Haddix and reportedly William A. Haddix. However, William A. Haddix was supposed to be dead at the time, having passed away in 1864 in Georgia during the Civil War. Were reports of his death "greatly exaggerated" as they say? Anyone have any information on this? sincerely, Philip Kontos Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
