This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. My aunt's name is Mona and my grandmother was Louella. So Brack Haddix was my great grandfather. I was five years old when your father passed away. Dessie used to take care of me while my mother worked. I do not know if you have heard but aunt Mona died from pneumonia this pass February 2013. There are very few family members alive who could answer your questions. Someone told me Bobbie has also passed away. I remember Brack very well, but I did not know much about Rebecca Thorpe not many of the family talked about her. Mona had a picture of her but that is all I know.Sorry this did not help you. Birth Father Death: Mining accident, Consolidated Coal Company July 28, 1909 - Fairmont WV - Shaft #38 (Was reported in Washington Post - the image of this document is in a previous post on this string) Birth Father Legal Wife: Ida Haddix (buried beside husband in 1920) Birth Father Burial location: Ice's Cemetary in Marion WV I'm trying to confirm that Leona Maude VanScoy's birth father (out of wedlock) was the John Haddix who died in the Consolidated mining accident in 1909. Leona (my grandmother), told me her birth father was a Haddix (and I think I saw the name John Haddix that she had written in a book), and that he died 6 months BEFORE she was born. I think the family changed the timeframe because she was born out of wedlock. I think her father died 6 months after her birth. I think William VanScoy married Dessie Corrick after she gave birth to Leona because she didn't have a father and the VanScoy's were connected to the Corrick family a generation or two back. My username used to be terricox and I was trying to find documented evidence that John Haddix is my grandmother Leona VanScoy's birth father. Based on cemetary records, he was married to someone else, other than my great grandmother, Dessie Corrick. John died 6 months after my grandmother Leona was born. Dessie married a VanScoy and he raised Leona as his own. My theory is that John was married and got Dessie pregnant, out of wedlock. He died in the mine 6 months after Leona's birth. Dessie had to have help w/ the baby and a VanScoy (there are connections w/ this family and mine a generation back) married her to take care of them. My grandmother (Leona) had shown me his name, hand written in a book (maybe a bible), and my family cant find it. But I remembered her telling me about it very clearly. And it's too much of a coincidence that he died close to her birth (which is the story everyone in my family knows). Geneaology! is very frustrating, particularly when the line ends so quickly....
