Hi Amanda, No, there were HAASs in Slovakia too. Trouble is, Slovak records haven't gotten onto the web the way some other countries have. My father in law is from Slovakia (little village near Kosice) and we've been unable to get old church records from there, even with personal visits to his old village. He has a cousin still living there (and a few other relatives), but they just aren't into the technology age yet. If you know where in Slovakia, you might try contacting the archives in Bratislava. I'm pretty sure that's where their archives are, but don't know any contacts for you. Try typing Slovakia Genealogy into a good search engine and you might find something that way. A lot of the common people over there are very nice and want to be helpful. But many of those with decent jobs are left over from the Communist regime and have a very bad attitude, especially towards Americans. Don't know if they'd treat Australians that way or not. Good luck!
