Hi all, It's a needle in a haystack with such a common surname but here is my DE HAAS ancestor from Aengwirden in Friesland (Netherlands). He was possibly my great-grandmother Akke de Haas' great-grandfather. His name was possibly derived from the name of the area of HASKERLAND (next to Aengwirden) or the village of either OUDEHASKE or NIJEHASKE in Haskerland (means "Hareland") where he may have been born and would have been used because there were several men with the name Hindrik Jans in the Aengwirden area (tax returns of 1749). His possible son Jan married in Drachten (Smallingerland area) on the 09 April 1752 to Sjoerdtje Harkes and on 12 April 1778 to Harmke Fookes. I haven't been able to find son Jan's baptism, but I did find a series of other baptisms: Hindrik Jans de Haas born c.1684 (Haskerland?), married Tjits(ke) Dirks c.1706, on 10/11/1709 new "lidmaten" (church members) in Luinjebert*, also lidmaten there on 02/11/1738; baptisms in Tjallebird*, exc. Hil in Luinjebert*, Dirk in Gersloot* and Aaltje in Terbant*) baptisms by this couple: Jan bapt.25/09/1707 (died as a child??)
