I would like to contact with people, whose HAAS ancestors came from Baden, Germany especially from the area around the city of Oberkirch, or from one of the small villages like Lautenbach, Oedsbach, Sendelbach, Grimmersbach, Hesselbach, Winterbach, Tiergarten. Here is what we have: Zeriockus (or Cyriak) Haas was born to the second marriage of Franz Anton Haas and his wife Helene Kaltenbronn. They were married in the little village of Oedsbach on May 18, 1840. Helene Kaltenbronn was the daughter of Josef Kaltenbronn and his wife Anna Maria Wiegele. Franz Anton and Helene had four children born to this second marriage, Zeriockus (Cyriak) Haas was the first born on June 21, 1841, next was a daughter Helene Haas who was born April 17, 1844, then another son was born to this union Klemens Haas born September 20, 1847, but died the next month October 1, 1847, the last child born to this marriage was Karoline Haas born January 6, 1849, and she died October 7, 1849. This is the last date in Germany that we have of this family. Since the year 1849 brought so much sadness to Helene (Kaltenbronn) Haas, she lost her mother Anna Maria (Wiegele) Kaltenbronn died on August 7, 1849, then next her little baby Karoline Haas died on October 7, 1849, and 12 days later on October 19, 1849 her husband Franz Anton Haas died. We were unable to find any records that pertained to this little family in Germany after 1849, no marriages, deaths and etc. We can just feel very sorry for a young mother with a small eight year old son and a little five year old girl. She might have joined with other members of her family to start anew in America. We can only speculate to what happen between 1849 and 1865. What we do know that in 1865 through 1868 Zeriockus Haas had a Boot and Shoe Store in Memphis, Tennessee located at 244 Second Street.
Greetings, This is my first post to the list so I thought I would post my Haas line. My line 'daughters out' with Elenor Haas (1795-1879) who was married to William I Hoffman (1787-1871). I am a descendent of their son Frederick Hoffman. They lived in Hunterdon County, NJ. Elenor is a daughter of John Haas (1757-1838) and Lydia Rue (1766-aft 1824). John served in the NJ militia during the Revolution. He was born in Bernards TWP, Somerset Co., NJ and died at Bissel (Tewksbury TWP I think) in Hunterdon County, NJ. John was the son of a Johannes Haas who was born c1730, possibly in Germany or Switzerland. He married Maria Boice in c1755. Johannes was naturalized in 1768. Maria was born c1735, possibly Somerset or Middlesex Co., NJ, the daughter of Jacob Buys and Aaghje 'Agatha' Messler. Any information regarding Johannes would be especially appreciated. I'm also interested in corresponding with anyone who thinks they may connect with this line. Regards, Rick Novak
Bill: Thanks for the postings about the Haas page. But for folks who are joining the list (as people are all the time) it would be nice if you would include the URL of the page in your posts. Seeking info on Charles HAAS a piano maker/piano tuner living in NY city in the late 1800's. Died 1898 of chronic heart condition. Can determine where he was born yet. My only documentation is his death certificate which lists parents as "unknown". Married a Harriet SLOAN c. 1886.

To all, I'm attempting to trace my grandfather, George Hunter HAAS and am seeking information regarding his parents, extended family, and ancestors. I don't have a great deal of information to work with and no living family members who can help. From his obituary, I know his parents' names and that he had two brothers, John and Homer HAAS of Pennsylvania, still living in 1944. Any assistance will be appreciated. If anyone else is researching this family, I would be happy to exchange the information I do have. I am pretty sure my Haas line came from Lehigh County, Pa. My great-grandmother was Rebecca Jane Haas. Her family Bible indicates her date of birth as 21 Jan 1840. Her date of death as 27 Jan 1923. She died in Starkweather, Ramsey County, North Dakota. Unfortunately North Dakota does not have a record of her death. Every census I found her in lists her place of birth as Pa. The family Bible lists her parents as Isaac S. and Susannah Haas. He died 18 July 1881 and she died 2 June 1878. I am not sure where they died. In the 1870 census they were living with their daughter and her husband in Warren County, Il. In 1880 Isaac was still living with them in Warren County. I found a book on Lehigh County Births that lists an Isaac being born 31 Jul 1808 to Isaac and Margaretha Haas. This book seems to indicate that Isaac was born 25 June 1786 to Henry and Catharine Haas. If any of these people sound familiar, let me know. Jeff DeHart Altadena, CA.
Hi all, My most wanted HAAS, is Mary Magdelene HAAS, wife of Andrew Stocker. They had a daughter named Rosanna who married John Michael Ginther on 25 June, 1824. John Michael was born 14 March, 1796 at Gnadenhutten, Ohio (Tuscarawas). They moved to Wapello County Iowa then on to Allen, Nebraska (Dixon), where they both died and are buried in the Allen Cemetery. Anyone recognize any of the names above, I would love to hear from you and find out more about Mary's parents and siblings. Thanks, Duane Pierce
Hi Kathy, I am not sure we met at the 1997 Thieken reunion I attended or not. I didn't get to the one last year and we didn't have our big HAAS reunion this year, so if their was a Thieken reunion I didn't get any info to pass along. One of our "Leaders" cousin Leroy "Roy" Haas had surgery this summer; but I hear he is doing great. My grandfather was John J. Haas married to Nellie Agnes Moore from Ironton, Lawrence Co. OH. Hello all: I am a HAAS from Southern Ohio and have a web page at thf.net. I have identified all my family from Peter Haas who was listed in the 1850 census of Scioto Co., Ohio , married there and raised a large family there and in Lawrence Co., Ohio As you will see at my site, I am still searching for Peters origin in Germany. I found his wife Fredericka Thieken's origin in Cloppenburg, Germany and visited there 4 times. I believe that Peter came to the USA with 2 brothers, John or Joseph and George but am unable to connect them altho they were all listed in the 1850 census record.
