Posted on: HAAS Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/h/a/HAAS/obituaries/6 Surname: HAAS, WAXLER, SMITH, PURVIS, ALEXANDER, MATTHYS, VOGEL, BIBLE ------------------------- The following obituary was published in the Blanco County News, newspaper (Blanco, Texas) on 30 Aug 2000. Please note I am not related to this individual and I do not have any additional information. HAAS Willie Haas, age 79, passed on to our Lord on August 23, 200 while in the Blanco Health Care Center after a two year stay. He was born May 23, 1921 at the [photo of Willie Haas] Haas Homestead in Blanco County. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Clara Haas and one son Carl James Haas and daughter in law, Debra Bell Haas, and sister in law, Nettie Haas, wife of Marvin Haas. He attended the Live Oak School, a one room school west of Blanco, near his home until the 7th grade, the highest grade offered. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from July 1942 until he was honorably discharged in January 1946, serving most of that time in the South Pacific. Willie was married on April 30, 1947 to Nelda Lee Waxler, they made their home on the original Haas Farm and raised ten children. He as an avid farmer and rancher, raising cattle, hogs, sheep, goats, and in the fields he raised cotton, wheat, milo, hay, and truck farmed tomatoes and squash. Besides being well known for his farming and ranching abilities, he always had time for sharing his knowledge with friends and neighbors. At one time he spent several terms on the ASCS Board of Directors, he also spent several years as Rural Mail Carrier, and Public Weigher at the local Auction Barn. In the late 60's he became Deputy Sheriff and then was elected Sheriff of Blanco County for two terms. He belonged to many organizations, some of which were the Eagles, Sons of Herman, American Legion and the VFW. Willie is survived by his wife, Nelda Lee, his children, William Joseph Haas Jr. and wife Jo Nell, of Blanco, Catherine Ann Smith, and husband Don, of Blanco, Edward Emil Haas, and wife Sue, of Cameron, Patrick Charles Haas and wife Yoldnda, of Spicewood, Michael Lynn Haas and wife Debbie of Austin, Jeanie Sue Purvis of Blanco, Diane Marie Haas of Austin, Allen Lee Haas and wife Lisa, of Blanco, and Ellen Helena Alexander and husbandArthur of Richland, MO., daughter in law Kathleen of Montana, and also two close family friends, Cliff Filter and Gretchen Matthys. He has 27 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Haas and wife Irene of Bandera, Marvin Haas of Spring Branch, one sister, Nelda Mary Vogel and husband George of Stonewall and one brother in law, Clarence Waxler and wife Helen of Blanco and many nieces and nephews. He was farming and ranching until his health failed. Willie will be remembered for his delicious pork BBQ and butchering season by the community, and his dry sense of humor. Our dad - PaPaw - will be missed by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren because up to his death they were the center of his life. Rosary was held at Crofts Funeral Home on Sunday August 27, with Father John Finn. Funeral Services were held at St. Ferdinands Catholic Church Tuesday August 29, 2000 with interment at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Twin Sisters with Father John Finn officiating. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Patrick Has Jr., Bryan Haas, Brent Haas, James Haas, Shane Purvis, and Curtis Haas. Honorary Pall Bearers were also grandsons, Michael Bible, Travis Bible, Danny Haas, Brendan Haas, Jeffery Haas, and Colby Haas. Representatives of the Blanco County Sheriffs Dept. attended the services to honor him for his years served as Sheriff. Memorials may be made to Blanco EMS, Salt and Light Ministries at St. Ferdinands Catholic Church, Hospice, Blanco County Sheriffs Dept. or the charity of your choice.
My apologies to everyone for sending that "messed up" message previously. I should have known to cut and paste first. My mistake. Here is the message again and hopefully you can read the whole thing. Again, sorry if you receive this on more than one list but felt it was important enough to be forwarded to everyone. I am not in any way promoting this website or any other website. Vanessa ----- Original Message ----- Subj: Genealogy scam Date: 09/03/2000 6:30:57 AM Mountain Daylight Time From: plfleming@shelbynet.net (Phyllis Fleming) I received this message after it was forwarded to the INGENWEB state coordinator: About 2 weeeks ago we received a complaint from an Archives submitter that her materials were found on a genealogy subscription service: www.familydiscovery.com The submitter was able to do a little digging and found that they were linking to her files housed on her server, but shrink-wrapped inside a frame so it appears to be THEIR work. About 10 days ago, to investigate this, I signed up with familydiscovery. To date, I have not received a user id or password to get inside. The registered owners of the web site gave bogus telephone numbers in their registration. One number goes to a recorded message line; the other to a carpet company. Some of the e-mail adds on their web site bounce. Standing on the outside and looking through the window, it appears that several folks' web sites have been prize-mined: http://www.familydiscovery.com/whatsnew.htm The Storey Co., IA and the Washington Co., PA stuff seem to come from USGenWeb sites. Some of the other IA and NC stuff seems to come from non-USGW sites. None of the materials seem to be housed at either rootsweb or usgennet. Sorry if the question wasn't for me, but I thot I'd answer anyways- The earliest recorded HAAS that I have in my records is Fred HAAS married in the year 1900 and living in W. Nanticoke, PA (Luzerne County). Plus his father Charles, and his name is all the info I have on him except for cause of death. Don't know where Charles lived, or his son prior to his son's impending marriage. His siblings... but I don't have dates of any kind for them. I think his brother Charles was in the Navy..not absolute on that. Fred HAAS had a daughter Elizabeth Jane HAAS but she married a THOMAS. George YEAGER and Adam HAAS don't ring a bell. He had 4 daughters and 3 sons who lived to adulthood. Okay. That's it :-)
Do you have an Elizabeth Haas who was living in Berks County in 1910 and 1920? She had been married to a George Yeager. I do not know her parent's name. Would appreciate any info. you might have. Also have an Adam Haas but he lived most of his childhood in Cambria Co., Pa. Thanks for any help.
