    1. Re: Hugh and Owain Gwynne
    2. I know that everyone likes to consider the possibility of a connection with the Colonel Hugh Gwyn line (including myself). But I have found multiple other Gwyn/Gwin/Guin families from the 1600-1700s including those in Wales (Flint, Welshpool, Caernarvonshire, Llandovery, Brecon, Neath, Llandeilo, Llandovery, etc.) Northern Ireland (Donegal, Londonderry, Antrim) Southern Ireland (Cork, Tipperary) England (London, Kent, Gloucester, Hereford, Shropshire)and even from Southern Scotland. Many of these families are of no less distinction than the Colonel Hugh Gwyn line. It would be a shame to ignore the possibility of our descent from these families as well. Although, I think that some of the NC Gwins have a strong claim to being related to Colonel Hugh, I don't think this applies to my line of Virginia/WVa Gwins. Also, we don't really have any real evidence that Colonel Hugh Gwyn, Sr. had a father named Owain Gwynne. I think it is more likely that Colonel Hugh may have come from a family in Cardiganshire and was not related in any way to the Wynns of Gwydir. By the way, I just found out that even the Wynns of Gwydir (Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet Gwydir) faked his descent from Owain Gwynedd ap Gruffydd, Prince of Wales! Best wishes! Ron Gwinn
