In July 2003 I confirmed what was only alleged to me prior to that, that Isham Gwin did indeed live in east TN and owned 249 acres "on the waters of Walden's Creek" in what is now Sevier County. He was granted this land in 1809 by Governor Blount; it was surveyed; the survey was included in the deed; his neighbors were named as Peter Brickey, George Amerine, Richard Shields, and Mr. Bennifield. Isham's son, John Gwin, told every census taker for decades that he was born in TN, and his gravestone in Wilsonville, Shelby Co., AL, marks his date of birth at November 1792. Using the survey listed in the deed to Isham's land, I was able to draw a plat map of the property which I've recorded, along with my transcription of that deed, at my webpage for him at: http://www.zianet.com/jmcdgwin/gwinisham.htm Since I posted that page online, I've been in contact with a few people who have provided even more information which is now also listed there. Please have a look, then contact me if you have anything further to share. Thank you so much.
