    1. Re: Thanks to Terry & Champ Gwin
    2. Hi all, Thank you Terry for the address for Joyce Hornback. As to the name of Champ Gwin, I have seen that name before but have to do some digging to find out where. My Guinn's lived in Fentress Co. TN which was previously part of N.C. as most of you know. They lived there from about 1800 until sometime around 1830s when that part of Tenn was resurveyed, and I'm told then it became part of Clinton Co. KY. They never moved, just the state line moved. If you look at maps of that area, you can see where the line changed around that time. I have a program that shows the changes. Anyway, Not all the Guinn's ended up in KY. There was a David "Tinker" Beaty who was a cousin of the Guinn's who, during the Civil war, had a guerilla unit in Fentress County, and one of my Guinn ancestors fought with him. Tinker Dave had an arch enemy named Champion "Champ" Ferguson, and they were on opposite sides of the war, so they continued their feud under the guise of patriotism! My point is, that the name Champ or Champion might have had a significance for some people, enough for them to name their children that. And one of my offshoot cousins told me we had a Champ somewhere in our line who may have moved to Texas about 1880-1890. Those Guinn's may have gone to Wise Co., TX. The name may have originated around the 1830s so a look into history could give us a clue of where it came from. I'll look in my files and if I find anything I'll post it. I must tell you, I have been very unorganized for a long time!! Peggy Guinn Bowen
