    1. Re: The Book of the Gwinns/Gwynns
    2. Hello! My third-great-grandfather was Andrew Gwinn,Sr. who was born July 15, 1794 in Shenandoah Valley in VA and died May 31, 1879 in Cabell Co., WV. He married Rachael Harshbarger on February 19, 1827 in Cabell Co., (W)VA by David Harbour, Minister. Rachael was the daughter of David Harshbarger and Elizabeth Beaheer. She was born in 1806 in Botetourt Co., VA and died February 16, 1870 in Cabell Co., WV. I have tried to trace this family back but all I have is that: (1) The father of Andrew Gwinn, Sr. came to Cabell County in 1810, where he followed the occupation of farming, dying in 1830. After the War of 1812, Andrew Gwinn, Sr. remained with his father until he married Rachel Harshbarger. (Source: "History of The Great Kanawha Valley", page 56) and (2) There is some information in Cabell County, VA (now WV) records that show a John Guin listed in "Cabell County Tax List 1810" compiled by Sigus Olafson. The tax list was in "Cabell County (W) Virginia Abstracts of Deed Book II, 1814-1819" by Carrie Eldridge--John Guin 1 free white male 21 and over; 0 slaves; 0 horses. Also, in "Cabell County (W) Virginia Abstracts of Deed Book II, 1814-1819" by Carrie Eldridge, page 238, 26 Nov 1816 indenture John Martin and wife Elizabeth to Andrew Quinn, 25 a. on Mud River, HEIR to John Quinn, dec'd. Clk. Js. What I'm wondering is if this John Guin is the father of my Andrew Gwinn, Sr. Does anyone have any information about a John Guin/Gwinn/Gwynn going to VA with a 16 year old son named Andrew about 1810? I have a lot of genealogy data about the descendants of this family but would like to be able to trace back and find the right line they descend from. Thanks for any help!!!! Gloria

    3. There is an Andrew Gwin in the Johnson county, Tennessee 1840 census and I have deed records(these are in the Cater county Tn. courthouse.) where he bought land from Abe Gwin in the 1840's. I know little else about him but I would like to link him with the Abe Gwin who I am trying to find info. on to see if he is the same Abe Gwyn who is in Watauga county, NC in 1850. Does any of this sound familiar? Any help appreciated.
