    3. Thank you so very much. I do have a Gwin cousin after all. I am so excited about this information. I thank you with all my heart. Jeanette -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of David Horinek Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2007 7:12 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GWIN] Oklahoma Gwins, John P. This last information finally clicked something in my brain. My father told me stories of his "Aunt Ida" who showed him how to make soap. My father was Thomas Burt Gwin. His parents were John Robert Gwin and Jessie May Storms. His grandparents were Austin Burt Gwin and Florence A. Tripp. Austin and Florence are buried at the Terlton Cemetery in Terlton, Pawnee County, OK. According to my father Ida was a Creek Indian and had a sister named Ada. I do not know who Ada married or their maiden name. You will find William on the 1880 census for Centroloplis, Franklin County, Kansas, with his parents. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeanette" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2007 1:54 AM Subject: Re: [GWIN] Oklahoma Gwins, John P. > > John Paul Gwin > Born 1901 Creek County OK > Died 1976 Cherokee County OK > Father: William H. 3. John, First I want to thank you so much for the information that you have sent. Yes this is my long lost grandfather. It has taken a very long time to find even how his name was spelled. No one in the family would give any information on him so it has been a long search. I am thankful to you. His mother was half Creek and half Cherokee. His father is white and born in Kansas. Thank you, John. But I'm interested, so I looked for him in the 1920 Oklahoma census and found the following: On January 21, 1920, a couple who answered the census as John Gwin, age 18, and his wife Hazel, age 16, were roomers at 108 1/2 East Hobson in Sapulpa (a suburb south of Tulsa), Creek Co., Oklahoma. His race was listed as Indian, hers as white. He had not attended school since 19 Sep 1919, but she had. Both could read, write, and speak English. His occupation was listed as battery expert, hers as none. He and both his parents were born in Oklahoma; she and both her parents were born in Missouri. However, on Apr. 4, 1930, a John P. Gwin, age 28, was listed as living on E. 2nd St., Tulsa, OK. He was single, Indian, a welder by trade, and a native of Oklahoma. But he listed his parents' place of birth as Kansas (father) and Oklahoma (mother). Best to you, In Jesus, John (Contact information:) =========================================== John M. 2. John Gwin
    3. Isham Gwin is one of my gggg-grandpas. He married Mary Canterbury near Blacksburg, Virginia, and moved to Tennessee, settling in Sevier Co. in the Wear Valley. They had about ten children, most of whom moved to southern Indiana with him to escape association with slavery. At least two disagreed, however, and moved to Alabama instead. We have lots more information on this most interesting family at our website. You can start at our page for Isham and Mary and catch the links there that will take you to other pages. http://www.zianet.com/jmcdgwin/gwinisham.htm Please let us know if you have anything to add! :-) John Gwin [email protected]
