    3. I am looking for the parents of John B. (Byron ?) Guinn b. in NC in 1785. He married Sarah Varnell b. VA 1787. they married in 1807 in Sevier Co., TN. I believe his father to have been Charles Guinn who owned property in Sevier Co. Tn in that time period. Children: Matilda Mary Ann Covington Charles Tellis Jessie Pierce Sarah Jane The children were all born in Sevier Co., TN. The family moved from Sevier Co. to McMinn Co, TN and then to Dade Co., GA. Their son Charles Tellis Guinn is my line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Norma Jean, It's great to hear that I'm not the only one looking for non-Southern Gwins. I do believe that our Gwins are realted, but I haven't found solid evidence, yet. The closest I have come so far, is that Daniel had a son named Horatio Jones Gwin. This Horatio is buried in the Bethel Cemetry, Chester Township, Morrow County, Ohio. Daniel has another child buried there. Apparantly several Gwins are buried there. So there might be more information for you there. Glad to hear that there are more of us out there. Sheryl

    3. Norma: I wrote to some Gwin's in Peoria several years ago but only got one reply: from a guy in a correctional facility. He said his Gwin's originally came from the Ohio area, but he didn't know anything else about them. You might try searching addresses in Peoria. Good luck. 3. FYI: Hugh Gwin used to be the president of the Bath County, VA historical society. He is a descendent of Capt. David Gwin, I believe. David's son or a grandson is buried at my father- in-law's old home place in Bath County, near Bolar, VA. The property is no longer in the family and my father-in-law is deceased. He inherited the property from his father whose grandmother was Nancy Gwin, married to James or John Wiley. This is my husband's line of Gwin's, so I have done little research on the family, basing information from Mr. Cleek. Mr. Cleek was also a descendent of this family and was or is rather old, so I imagine a lot of his information was orally passed down. I was never successful in getting much information from the historical society, but maybe someone else can. Thanks. 1. Re: Hugh and Owain Gwynne
    2. I know that everyone likes to consider the possibility of a connection with the Colonel Hugh Gwyn line (including myself). But I have found multiple other Gwyn/Gwin/Guin families from the 1600-1700s including those in Wales (Flint, Welshpool, Caernarvonshire, Llandovery, Brecon, Neath, Llandeilo, Llandovery, etc.) Northern Ireland (Donegal, Londonderry, Antrim) Southern Ireland (Cork, Tipperary) England (London, Kent, Gloucester, Hereford, Shropshire)and even from Southern Scotland. Many of these families are of no less distinction than the Colonel Hugh Gwyn line. It would be a shame to ignore the possibility of our descent from these families as well. Although, I think that some of the NC Gwins have a strong claim to being related to Colonel Hugh, I don't think this applies to my line of Virginia/WVa Gwins. Also, we don't really have any real evidence that Colonel Hugh Gwyn, Sr. had a father named Owain Gwynne. I think it is more likely that Colonel Hugh may have come from a family in Cardiganshire and was not related in any way to the Wynns of Gwydir. By the way, I just found out that even the Wynns of Gwydir (Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet Gwydir) faked his descent from Owain Gwynedd ap Gruffydd, Prince of Wales! Best wishes! Ron Gwinn
