    3. Dear cousins, I hope all that belong to this list is taking percautions against viruses. So far have received 4 alerts and they all have been people who belong to this list. It's no ones fault unless they don't have a Virus Scan system. There has been 2 different kinds that are going around from this . If they get in, they just keep on sending to email addresses. :-( I know that no one on the list wants this. If any one gets an alert after they receive this, please contact me. God Bless you all. 1. Excerpt from Journal of the Quaker George Fox Concerning a Paul Gwin
    2. Hello Gwin List: I found the following passage which refers to a Paul Gwin of Bristol. This is an excerpt from a autobiography of the Quaker George Fox. The chapter is entitled CHAPTER X. Planting the Seed in Wales 1656-1657. If you want to read more the website is http://www.mindspring.com/~strecorsoc/gfox/ch10.html On First-day morning I went to the meeting in Broadmead at Bristol, which was large and quiet. Notice was given of a meeting to be in the afternoon in the orchard. There was at Bristol a rude Baptist, named Paul Gwin, who had before made great disturbance in our meetings, being encouraged and set on by the mayor, who, it was reported, would sometimes give him his dinner to encourage him. Such multitudes of rude people he gathered after him, that it was thought there had been sometimes ten thousand people at our meeting in the orchard. As I was going into the orchard, the people told me that Paul Gwin was going to the meeting. I bade them never heed, for it was nothing to me who went to it. When I was come into the orchard, I stood upon the stone that Friends used to stand on when they spoke; and I was moved of the Lord to put off my hat, and to stand a while, and let the people look at me; for some thousands of people were there. While I thus stood silent, this rude Baptist began to find fault with my hair; but I said nothing to him. Then he ran on into words; and at last, "Ye wise men of Bristol," said he, "I marvel at you, that you will stand here, and hear a man speak and affirm that which he cannot make good." Then the Lord opened my mouth (for as yet I had not spoken a word), and I asked the people whether they had ever heard me speak, or had ever seen me before; and I bade them take notice what kind of man this was amongst them that should so impudently say that I spoke and affirmed that which I could not make good; and yet neither he nor they had ever heard me or seen me before. Therefore that was a lying, envious, malicious spirit that spoke in him; and it was of the devil, and not of God. I charged him in the dread and power of the Lord to be silent: and the mighty power of God came over him, and all his company .... For many hours did I declare the Word of life amongst them in the eternal power of God, that by Him they might come up into the beginning, and be reconciled to Him. And having turned them to the Spirit of God in themselves, that would lead into all Truth, I was moved to pray in the mighty power of God; and the Lord's power came over all. When I had done, this fellow began to babble again; and John Audland was moved to bid him repent, and fear God. So his own people and followers being ashamed of him, he passed away, and never came again to disturb the meeting. The meeting broke up quietly, and the Lord's power and glory shone over all: a blessed day it was, and the Lord had the praise. After a while this Paul Gwin went beyond the seas; and many years after I met him in Barbadoes.

    3. I tilod my husband this morning that I was loosing my mind. I mistakenly told you John B. Guinn was born in SC. He was born in NC. I suspect it was the part of NC that became Tennessee. I only know that from the 1850 Dade Co., GA census. HIs wife was from VA. I can not find a connection to the other Guinn families. I'm beginning to believe he was just dropped form a space ship. 2. Sue, as far as I know none of my Gwins were ever in MO. I speculate that they came into Virginia and went south or came in at Charleston, then migrated inland and further south. Sorry, Davine

    2. Hi Norris, I am sorry to say I do not know if we connect. All I know is that our Morris Gwyn was in the Old District 96 area as early as 1757. I have not been able to determine where he was before then. Do you know if your James had brothers? I assume you do not know who James' father is. Davine

    3. Davine: I`m sure you are getting a lot of hits since you stated you were writing a book about the Gwins. I want to offer my family history if it fits. FYI following is a short sketch of my family: James Guyn was born near Richmond VA in abt. 1780. He fathered 6 children the oldest of which was William, my ggggrandpa. According to Goodspeed`s History of NW AR. James moved his family to NC where he raised horses. Soon he went on to VA. in Lee County where William married Nancy Bausell , daughter of Dolly Bausell. William then crossed the mountains at Pound Gap and settled in Perry Co., KY where he had 6 children. The sons were Drury Fletcher (I believe named after his father, Drury Fletcher), James S, and John. They were in Breathitt Co., KY when the Civil war broke out and following the war, they migrated to Crawford and Washington Cos in AR. James S. was my gggrandpa and is buried with most of the early family in Winslow, Wash. Co, AR. If we connect, please let me know. Thanks. With Regards Norris Guinn

    3. To all the Gwins. I am very sorry that I sent what I thought was a real virus alert. I really thought the man knew what he was talking about and I did check several databases to see if it showed up as a Hoax. At the time I looked for it, it did not show as a hoax. I apologize to each and everyone. I thought for a few hours before I sent the alert. Mr. Brumm I am sorry if this angered you. I thought I was doing the right thing in the warning. I would never send anything that I knew was a hoax. You can be sure I will never send anything again. I personally would rather get something I can just delete instead of getting a virus. I have had them and I also have caught some before they were opened. 3. Hi, I am looking for Gwins that stayed North. PA>OH>WI>MO> and who knows??? I have a will that a John Gwin wrote 28 June, 1831 in the twp. of Charlestown, county Chester, PA. He names Catherine, Hannah, Rachel, Mary a son John Gwin. It states that son John Gwin's inheritance be delivered to him. (that tells me that son John was not in the same area njk) Catherine and Hannah, was made executixed of the will. The will was signed by Catherine Gwin, 11 Sept 1835. as other witnesses did also. When the will was approved only Catherine was the excutrix, saying the other one (Hannah; njk) was insane. I am pretty sure that this is my husband's family????? Does the dates or name mean anything to anyone. I sure would like to find out something. Dean's great-grandfather was Theodore Gwin. His great-great-grandfather was John Gwin. This John Gwin m. Margaret Ann Leach/Leech in 1837 in Knox county, OH. She was b. 1816 and died 1842. John was b. abt 1817 in PA. Theodore was b. in Knox county 1841 and died 1915 in MO. He was taken and raised by his Aunt and Uncle Catherine Gwin who had m. John Singery. Is the the same Catherine, I doubt it>maybe an Aunt??? In Theodore's obit; it states that his only brother died about a year ago.......no name would have died abt 1914. That his father died about 1885. (no place was mentioned) for the his father or his only brother. I have no idea what the brothers name was. Help, please: I'm sorry about this being so long. :o( Norma Jean Deffenbaugh King [email protected]
