Andrew J Gwin/Guinn born 1807 Black Mountain Buncombe/Burke NC believe he is the Grandson of Samuel Guinn and Deborah of Surry County NC. Deborah and some of their children moved to Burke after Samuel death. We have done DNA but no close matches. This family includes Margaret Guinn that married Daniel England. There is some indications that two of her sisters married other England relatives. Sent from my iPhone > On Jan 27, 2016, at 2:00 AM, [email protected] wrote: > > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. I’m John Gwin. My known and documented Gwins go back to Isham Gwin who married Mary Canterbury in western Virginia in 1787. They moved to and lived some 20 years in what’s today the Wear Valley of Sever Co., TN, then moved to southern Indiana, finally settling in Orange Co., IN, where he became the first pastor of Providence Primitive Baptist Church and served there until just before his death in Dec. 1830 in his mid 60’s. They had at least eleven and probably twelve children. I’ve told their story on his Findagrave.com <http://findagrave.com/> memorial—his name is spelled there as Isom Gwin—at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=gwin+&GSfn=isom&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=42583195&df=all&

I'm looking for information on my gg grandfather, Horatio Jones Gwin. He was born 1809 in PA. He married Lucinda Newcomb in Knox County, OH. She died in 1850 in IN. He died 1881 in CA. They had 4 children: Mary, Gaven, Thomas & Austin (my g grandfather). I have nothing about Mary or Gaven after the 1850 census. Thomas went to CA with Horatio and Austin was raised by his Uncle Leonard Newcomb. I believe that John & Catherine Gwin were Horatio's parents, but I have no proof. Any of this sound familiar? Your post reminds me that there's another Horatio Gwin, born about the same time and place, but never left the east coast. Several people have taken the 1880 census that both are in to be the same man. Which would mean that in 1880 he was in the CA census as a widower with no family and some how made it to the east coast (can't remember the exact state) and suddenly had a wife and 8 children. I've tried to tell people that this is not the same Horatio Gwin, but most refuse to separate the two, several trees are messed up.
Mary: Not sure if we've ever communicated but I am trying to find info on Champ Gwin who married Dorcas Williams. Thanks for the heads up. Sharon, I have heard of Champ Gwin, but as far as I know he does not connect to my Gwin Family. Do be careful because this person comes across as someone who know all about the Gwin Family and she will take your evidence and try to turn it upside down and make you think you are wrong. Use your evidence and keep looking for more, but don't let someone confuse you. There is someone out there who thinks they are an expert on Gwin genealogy and completely ignores factual evidence of others so she can "advise you to her way of interpretation." She is dead wrong in so many cases. Beware! Mary
Interesting! Thanks for letting me know about this. Davine Roberts Jacksonville, FL 904-766-6182 In a message dated 7/24/2011 2:21:19 P.M. I am a co-administrator for the project along with Michael A. Gwinn who started the project just a few weeks ago. Although the project is only a few weeks old, we already have 13 members and have made some interesting discoveries. For example, the Y-DNA results of documented descendents have shown that Robert Gwin, Sr of the Calfpasture River, Augusta Co. VA (1715c-1790c) was not closely related to Patrick Guin of Augusta County. Writers and researchers for many, many years have speculated that they were brothers. Don't forget the 2011 East Tennessee Germanna Reunion at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the Philadelphia Community, Washington Co., TN. Dates: 9, 10, & 11 September 2011 It's not too early to start making plans, getting plane and lodging reservations, etc. You can read the details about the Reunion here: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~george/easttennesseereunion2011.html See Ya There, Sarge My Germanna Database at Rootsweb: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=germanna My Germanna Website at Rootsweb: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~george/index.html
We are in the process of organizing a Reunion in Washington Co., TN, for all Germanna descendants whose ancestors came through TN. It will be held in conjunction with the annual Broyles Reunion. Tentative dates for the Germanna Reunion are 9, 10, & 11 September, 2011. The Broyles Reunion occurs on the 11th. We are trying to line up speakers and will let everyone know as we get commitments. Tentatively, Friday, the 9th, will be for meeting each other and going out to visit some original homeplaces, family cemeteries, and other places of interest related to Germanna. Times will be determined later and will be announced. Saturday's activities will probably start at 9:00 AM. Ending time will depend on the number of speakers and the length of their presentations. If we finish early enough, we'll travel some more to whatever places attendees desire. Lodging is plentiful in Greeneville, TN, and the drive from there is only about 10 miles. For those coming from the east, they can stay in Jonesborough or Johnson City. The drive from Jonesborough is about 14 miles, and from I-26 in Johnson City about 23 miles. I'll post driving directions from Greeneville, Jonesborough, and Johnson City later. As for meals on Friday and Saturday, there are two places highly recommended, The Farmer's Daughter (which is well known by those who have attended past reunions) and the Pilot Hill General Store and Restaurant. The latter is in the building that originally housed the Pilot Hill P. O. and General Store and was bought about a year ago and restored to much of its original condition. It now houses a restaurant specializing in BBQ and Ribs and has gained quite a reputation for its great food. For breakfast and dinner, there are plenty of restaurants near the motels you will be staying in, in whichever city. I'll post more later, giving a list of all known Germanna families who migrated to East TN in the late 1700's and early 1800's, and there are a bunch of them. We invite anyone who is even remotely related to the Germanna families through marriage. There were many German families who came through the Shenandoah Valley into East TN and married into our Germannans. Many of these other Germans were even from the same areas of Germany as our Germanna ancestors! Some examples are BENDER/PAINTER, BOWMAN, COPP/CUPP, CRUM/GRIM/GRIMM, FELLERS/FILLERS/G'FELLERS, FOX/FUCHS, GUINN/GUIN/GWINN/GWIN, THOMA/THOMAS, STONECIPHER/ STEINSEIFER, KEEBLER/KIBLER, RUSH/ROUSE/RAUSCH, WEAVER/WEBER, WINDEL/WENDEL/WINDLE/WENDLE, etc. Regards, George W.
