If these are not the same men due to your factfinding, then like you I believe they are related in some way. Census records indicate that Dempsey Guthrie's father Stephen was born in NC, all the names are similar - Levi, Beverly, Dempsey, Stephen...to indicate that there is a close relationship between the two Guthrie families in Carteret County, NC and Madison County KY. I go to the Clayton Genealogy Library about 2x a month and will concentrate on this family. Will let you know what I find.
