    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Guthrie Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IBh.2ACIB/1223.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Morris, To point out one of the holes in the four brothers theory is to read the text of the writeup you posted. The four brothers are said to have arrived in the early 1700s and got off a boat at various locations along the North Carolina coast. One of the four brothers was father of John Wesley Guthrie. John Wesley was married in 1851 so his father would have been extremely old when John Wesley was getting married.....something like 170 at the time! If you will bracket your North Carolina coastal search around what you know to be fact and the early Pasquotank records, you will most certainly have gathered your likely Guthrie link. Daniel Guthrie witnessed a will in Pasquotank on 9 MAR 1713 and received a land patent (Bk. 8, p. 143) for 110 acres near Rich Neck in Pasquotank Co. on 14 FEB 1716. He witnessed other wills in 1721, 1724, and 1727. I believe this Daniel Guthrie was the same one that has been mentioned in late 1600s Virginia documents and became an early settler in North Carolina I also believe that he is the likely progenitor of Guthries along the NC coast. My ancestor left Middlesex/King & Queen Co. and went to Halifax Co., VA.
