Surnames: Guthrie, Guttery, Guthrey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IBh.2ACIB/1221 Message Board Post: I have a Francis Guthrie that was in Smith Co. Mississippi in the 1850 census. He might have been there in 1810 as his son was born in 1817. Francis was born in 1792 in Georgia and his wife Catherine was born in 1792 in South Carolina. The children that were born to them in Mississippi were, John W. b. 1817 Eliza b. 1827 Jane b.1832 (there may have been others). Their son John: John W. b. 1817 in MS and married Maryan Magan b. 1823 in Alabama. Their children were Samuel (My G. Grandfather) born 1842 in MS, Francis, b.1844 in MS, Martha, b.1845 in MS Ransom, b. 1847 in MS Eliza, b.1848 in MS Pleasant R b. 1848 in MS James P., b. 1850 in MS Amanda J., b. 1853 in MS Joseph T. b. 1854 in MS, Thomas, b. 1854 in AR John W. b. 1856 in LA Wm. L. b. 1859 in AR Laurene b. 1863 in AR (different spelling in different places. Lorene, Lorena, etc.) I hope we can tie in some of these with your Guthries. I have family pictures of Samuel and Wm L who also went by Lewis in a later census. He was known as Uncle Lou in the family. There is 6 children in W L's picture and would love to get the names of them. I have been searching the 1900 census for them trying to find the names. The wife and mother was Ella Saffel and she died in 1905 and was only 35 years old. The story that has been in the family was that there were three or four brothers that came from Scotland on the run from the law. (Horse stealing). Don't know how much truth to it but makes an interesting story any way. They all wound up in Arkansas as I have found them on the different Census'. Where they went from there is what I am looking for. Also more on the original family beginings.
