I think there is a pretty good chance that Frederick Guthrie was born in the Thickety Creek area of the Spartanburg area of SC. I also think it's a pretty good guess that his close relatives may have been killed in the Thickety Creek massacre of September 9, 1754. ..at the house of John Gutrey and James Anshers on the North side of Broad river on Buffellow Creek was killed 16 persons and ten which we did not find . This massacre described elsewhere as being on Thickety creek. Both Buffelow Creek and Thickety creek are in close proximity of each other. The two families had gathered for a wedding and the French Indians massacred them. Piling the bodies together with the livestock and burning them. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
