    3. I just today received an email from Bennett Greenspan from Family Tree DNA. He said..."The problem in Scotland is that Clans formed to allow the sons of females to be part of the Clan so many unrelated people with different names joined the clan." That probably eliminates any possibility of proving that all Guthrie's came from Forfar, Scotland. In all likelyhood there are Guthrie's whose ancestor's are from Forfar, Scotland ca. 1200 AD with no blood relation that can be shown with the Y chromosome DNA test. If two male Guthrie's take the test and match they have a common ancestor. If two male Guthrie's take the test and do not match they may or may not have a common ancestor. They could be descended from a brother and sister. The sister's children were adopted into the Guthrie clan in Scotland as Guthrie's and their descendants were Guthrie's, but there would be no matching Y chromosome. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
