Hello List, My earliest proven Guthrie ancestor is John "Jack" W. Guthrie, born abt 1840 in Indiana and died before 1910 in ? I don't know who his parents, siblings were or have any information prior. He was married to Mary E. Turnbow/Turnbaugh, from Illinois. The information I do have is from the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census records and this is where I found his approximate age and origin of birth. My grandfather never knew his Guthrie grandparents and only knew his grandfather's name as Jack Guthrie. Haven't been able to locate this family in Illinois Census records, there are too many John Guthrie's and none have matched and it is highly possible they were on the move and not counted. 1870 Federal Census: Montgomery Co., Kansas, Cherry Township, P. W, Male, age 19, Son, Single, At Home, Scossula (? same as above for A. B.), born in Illinois, father - Indiana, mother - Illinois (Jacob M.) , W. J. W, Male, age 16, Son, Single, At Home, born in Illinois, father - Indiana, mother - Illinois (William John - actually John William) , C. C.
