For those of us that had Guthrie's of interest in Spartenburg, Union or York Counties, SC the following should be of interest. In 1897 Cherokee County was formed from portions of Spartenburg, Union and York Counties. I know there are mentions of Guthrie's in each of these counties. A circle drawn with a radius of about 5 miles around Cherokee falls (now in Cherokee Co.), would encompass areas that formerly were in Sparten, Union and York Counties. When trying to locate Guthrie's I have been using the present day boundaries of the three counties, but I realize now I should have been using pre 1897 boundaries. It now seems possible, perhaps even probable that Guthrie's mentioned as located in these three counties were very close to one another. Also if you lost track of your family line about 1900 then you might want to look in Cherokee Co., SC.
