My husband's family - the Beaufort, NC GUTHRIE's of Carteret County have been a challenge. His mother was Susie C. GUTHRIE, b. 11-30-1907, d. 11-30-1994; daughter of Walter James GUTHRIE, b. 08-25-1872, d. 04-27-1949 (and Lula GABRIEL, b. 08-15-1876, d. 05-04-1942); son of Canelium Hines GUTHRIE, b. 11-03-1838; son of James C. GUTHRIE, b. 06-16-1803, d. 07-18-1828 and Caroline GUTHRIE GUTHRIE, b. 10-26-1809, d. 06-30-1868. Caroline's parents were Benjamin GUTHRIE and Hannah PARETREE, b. abt 1792 - married 07-14-1808. I continue to search for James C. GUTHRIE's parents. There are so many Guthrie's in the area with similar given names and varied spellings. Most information is from personal knowledge, court house records, the History Place in Morehead City, and the Carteret County Heritage Books.
