The deed does show that they were the sons of Abner and that was what I meant to say. I should have put the P> after Abner when I said that. "The following deed shows that both Abner and wife Esther were deceased by 1860 and proves names of Abner P.'s brothers." The will that you referred to as Book 2, pg 254 & 255, is a deed and is recorded in Book L, pg 254-255. Perhaps you didn't notice the date on this deed. It is dated Nov. 6, 1789, so this Stephen can't be the one you say was born in 1796. This was seven years before that Stephen was born and in this deed Samuel refers to the land where Stephen now resides. Since Stephen is already married and living in his own home it is assumed that he would be at least 25 years of age, which should make his birth date about 1764. So you can see that we are talking about two different Stephens. This is an example of how important it is to note the dates and time periods.
