Va and died in Kentucky. According to a Diposition form Henry Guthrie (John's brother) John Guthrie was sent out as a spy. When the British invaded Halifax Town (NC) he was shot through and left for dead. John Guthrie applied for Pension under the Act of 1792. One record was "Guthrie, John: private, NC 12 Mo's men. Wounded from a ball entering opposite the spine, which renders him incapable of laborious manual exercise, May 1781 near Halifax, NC Residence: Augusta, Georgia 1796. Never appeared on the muster rolls. Evidence incomplete. John had 10 brothers and sisters. Does this help.
