Group, As Lem said I have started a Guthrie surname group with Family Tree DNA. They were very accommodating. To view the progress go to www.familytree.com From their main page seach for Guthrie, or go to their surname group page and the seach function is active there also. In addition on the surname search page you can chose the correct "G" group and then click on Guthrie. My email is lguthrie@brightok.net is you have any questions about what the DNA can do for you you're welcome to email me. I'm learning as fast as I can! This is a site they sent me in reply to a question. http://www familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?codeƓ9175&special There are 3 tests available. 12 markers which just shows a relation. $99.00 25 markers which can show an common ancestor within 7 generations with 50% accuracy and within about 10 generations with 75-80 % accuracy. $100.00 upgrade from 12 to 25 37 markers which can show a common ancestor with 5 generations with 50% accuracy and 7-8 generations with about 80% accuracy. $79.00 upgrade from 25 to 37 generations. Not cheap and not perfect, but if you have other research that shows a probable ancestor in the specified generation range, then the DNA test is pretty conclusive. Only one person from each proven line needs to be tested. It would be nice if each Guthrie line were to have one donor. We might find that we are all related to each other from Scotland. Each person should have the 12 marker test done first...you might not be related to most of the group. But I think most are. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
