Re: Piedmont Valley, Do you mean arrival in the Edgecombe District or arrival in the colonies? The term piedmont refers to an area between the mountain and the coastal areas. So the term piedmont valley probably refers to this area in general and not to a specific valley. As the eastern part of Virginia and the North Eastern part of North Carolina was settled those without good land moved west. From my research it seems that the move to the Piedmont area took two generations. So a Guthrie family that was first found in the coastal regions would be found later inland and still later in the so called piedmont. Again from my research it seems that the settlement in the piedmont areas of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina were all started about the same time. However Indian attacks in South Carolina delayed settlement there until after the Revolution. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
