    1. [GUTHRIE]
    2. I contacted a DNA lab several years ago, and was told at that time that while DNA could show that two individuals were related, the test could not estimate the generation any closer than somewhere between 2 and 12. That is the two males were related somewhere between 2 and 12 generations ago. Since it appears that the Guthrie name originated in one area in Scotland all Guthrie's are going to be related within that time frame. If someone here has newer information that contradicts this, would they please post it? mtDNA would be useful to show that a female (non Guthrie) is related to a Guthrie of some generation back. For it to be useful to show a relationship betweeen two Guthrie's I believe a brother-sister relationship in a specific generation would have to be proved. Again if I'm wrong, please post.
