(See American Guthrie and Allied Families by Laurence Guthrie, 1933, page 37.) "Thomas Guthrie removed to Cumberland County, Virginia in 1750. Thomas Guthrie had eight children. He was one of the "Minute Men" under the Cumberland County, Virginia Committee of Safley, of which Edward Carrington, I think, was Chairman, and he was also a Captain of Militia during the Revolution (War)" Joseph A. Guthrie, a lawyer of Kansas City. (See History of Woodford County, by William E. Railey, page 418.) Thomas Guthrey filed his will in Cumberland County Virginia on October 6, 1790, and his will was proven on September 22, 1800, in which he mentions; 1-To daughter Susannah Moore, among other bequest, "old large bible". 2-To son William Guthrey land and plantation where I now live. 3-To grand daughter Sarah Guthrey, daughter of son William, having promised the child the same,--one mare colt named Kit. Information on Thomas Guthrey and his children was provided by Wilmer Kerns of Virginia, and is also listed in American Guthrie and Allied Families, by Laurence R. Guthrie, 1933, page 38 ( Thomas Guthrey's Will).
