Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IBh.2ACIB/674.675.676.678.679.686 Message Board Post: James Martin Guthrie, b. 1802 in SC, married Belinda Bishop. He was son of William J. Guthrie. James and Belinda are on the 1840 Coweta Co, GA census, then went to Upshur Co, TX, then to Williamson Co, TX...on 1850 census there. James was a merchant and cattleman...killed in 1854 in a dispute over a cow. Children of James and Belinda are: John Wesley, b. February 1835 (mar. Mary Ann Christmas), James A. b. Abt 1837( killed probably in the Civil War, never married), Mary Margaret, b. April 1839 (married Lemuel Robbins), William Franklin, b.24 May 1841 (married Mary Ann Mullis), Louisa Julia, b. 1843-1844 (married George Samuel Robbins), b.19 June 1845 (married Frances Herrning), Roswell C. b. 1847 (married Sarah Alice Guthrie), Nancy b. abt 1849 (married Francis Marion Mullis). James and Belinda are buried on their old farm, which is now owned by James Cavanaugh. The stones are in the middle of a cane field...Mr. Cavanaugh plows around them. The stones are broken but data in 1997 was readable. Son James is supposedly buried there, but I couldn't find a stone. The estate settlement of James in Williamson County, TX, is extensive and interesting. At one point he went on cattledrive to Kansas on the Chisholm Trail (This is documented in letters written by men who went with him) Roswell C. Guthrie is my line. I have lots of data on all the descendants of all the children of Belinda and James...will gladly share to anyone who corresponds with me directly. Gayle H. Cloud
