I have not checked the census for that period yet. This William appears to have been prominent in church and local politics. Religion was Primative Baptist. He has a marker at Boshell Cemetery, Townley, Walker County, Alabama, but he has an unmarked grave near Providence near Jerry Williams home. William and wife Hannah were members of an Arm of Dove’s Creek Church in Elbert County, Georgia, on February 6, 1796. William sold 50 acres of land laying on the north fork of Beaver Creek in Elbert County, Georgia to his mother, Elizabeth, on June 14, 1799, recorded July 19, 1799, Elbert County Georgia Deeds & Mortgages Book F, pages 40-41. On July 5, 1799, he sold 50 acres of land on the north fork of Beaver Creek, Georgia, to Joseph Parker & Joshua Hearne, recorded January 2, 1801, Elbert County, Georgia, Deeds & Mortgages Book G, pages 11-12-13. William, on February 7, 1801, received one dollar from his father, Robert’s estate, recorded page 57 Books A-B-C Wills, Returns, Inventories, Appraisements & Sales, Elbert County, Georgia. H! e moved to Hall County, Georgia, before the birth of his son Robert. He moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee, between 1806-1809 and in September 1810 he was appointed to help overseer to view and mark off a road from Fayettville to Shelbyville, Tennessee. On November 28, 1810 appointed to view & mark off a road from Parrish Old Mill to intersect Hannahs road at county line, recorded in 1st County Court Minutes of Lincoln County, Tennessee, Certificate 8518. July 7, 1814, was granted to William Guttery by the State of Tennessee 15 acres. On December 31, 1814, tax records of Lincoln County, Tennessee, for 1814 show William owned two plots of land, 15 acres each, Certificates numbers 3805 & 3804 located on Mulberry Creek. In 1815 William was removed as overseer of roads and replaced by James Peach. February, 1816, a transfer of a plat and Certificate from William Guttery to Robert Mayfield for 15 acres of land was proven by William Murry and Thomas Mayfield and ordered to be Cert! ified. Deed Book D page 461 Land Deed Book of Lincoln County, Tennessee. November 1, 1816 Deed from William Guttery of Monroe County, Tennessee on the Cahawby River to Ezekiel McNealy of Lincoln County, Tennessee, 15 acres on headwaters of Mulberry Creek, Register 27, November 1817. Shortly before 1820, he came to Walker County, Alabama. He entered land on November 18, 1822, east half T 15s, R 7W S19(west of Parrish, Alabama) and on October 22, 1823, T 14S, R 8W S 18 (Holly Grove). He was appointed the first Road Commissioner in Walker County Alabama after it was formed in December 26, 1823. information from Floyd Guthrie of Alabama 2. William GUTTERY.
