James Joseph was 11 years old and he was the youngest child in the family. Older siblings, who apparently were already in the U.S. included John, Henry, Patrick, Michael, Thomas and Mary. Siblings named William and Patrick (#1) died as infants in Ireland. Some of the family stayed in the vicinity of Byron and Oregon, Illinois before joining the others in Iowa.
