I'm looking for Guthrie's Run in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania It is reported to empty into the Allegheny near Monticello Furnace and possibly near to the mouth of Cowanshannock Creek. Is there a comprehensive list of Allegheny tributaries & their locations I can access? Or an organization that tracks Allegheny tributaries and their histories? Here are two19th-century, Armstrong County history web page snips: Valley Township > "Guthrie's run, which empties into the Allegheny at the railroad station, > was named after a teamster by the name of Guthrie, whose team of four mules > slipped on the ice over the precipice at its mouth, years ago, causing his > and their death. The dismal hollow along this run has, until within a few > years, been a terror to the superstitious who had occasion to pass it after > night. Some have remained away from their homes all night rather than pass > it in the dark." Rayburn Township > "The Monticello furnace, similar to all the rest of its class, was erected > on the bank of the Allegheny river, near Guthrie's run. The run gained its > name from Guthrie, a teamster, who, with four mules, slipped into the river > off the steep bank there and was drowned" ** My gggggGrandfather, Capt. Wm Guthrie resided and died in Armstrong County and killed similarly. The distinction being he & his team supposedly fell from a bridge. I don't know that this is the same Guthrie. But I would like gather any evidence one way or the other. There is, incidently, another creek that was once (maybe still is) named Guthrie Run (rather than Guthrie's Run) on the western edge of Jefferson Township in Butler County. I believe it was named for my ancestor's brief settlement there in 1797. Thanks very much to anyone willing to help.
