Since I didn't see a name in this post I'll leave part of it here for identification purposes. And I'm going to post to the board since I think this information will be useful to more than one person. When the surname is spelled Guttery and any are found in mid to east Alabama(including Cullman County) Mrs. McQueen Guttery's book seems to be the place to start. Guthrie and Guttery and Allied Families compiled by Mrs. John McQueen Guttery, Jasper, Alabama 1956. The book is out of print and I don't know where a copy can be had. I found mine in the Oklahoma Historical Society Library. I think many large genealogical libraries will have the book. It is typewritten and memeographed. Not good enough copy to be scanned and OCR'ed. There is also no index. That being said I did a quick biological scan and found the following. Mrs. McQeeen Guttery stated that the Guthrey's in Cullman Co., (Alabama) decend from David Guthrey of Cherokee Co. Since Walker Co., Georgia joins Cherokee Co., Alabama could be of the same family (as hers). I also found the following which is apparently the William Franklin Guthrie the researcher below is looking for. "The Caroline Guttery mentioned here was the wife of Franklin Guttery who was a son of John Guttery and wife Mary Rutledge and John Guttery was the third child of William and Hannah Guttery who came to Alabama about 1820" orrisgu@bellsouth.net you need to email me directly. Name is Larry, email lguthrie@brightok.net Larry lguthrie@brightok.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- In searching for my early ancestors, I have drawn a blank in trying to find siblings or parents of Henry Guthrie, Guttery, Guthry, etc. I first found hin in 1830 Newton Co. census and family stories say he was born there. I would appreciate any information you may have developed in your research that may give me a lead. I suspect that Henry's ancestors must have come from SC and or Virginia but have not been able to connect him to any other lines I have found.
