I just found my g.g, grandfather is I think James Guthrey originally from Tennessee, father to John my g.grandfather. He is on a 1860 census for Arkansas with five sisters and one brother. I have found you can't stick with the spelling Guthrie, you have to consider at the time most people couldn't read and write and the census takers would spell it any way they wanted too. I have found mine to be Guthrey, Guthery, Gutherie, and Guthrie.

Surnames: Guthrie Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IBh.2ACIB/1260 Message Board Post: I am searching for a veteran of WW2 who served in the 561st Field Artillery Battalion of the US Army. He would have been born between 1903 and 1928. The 561st FA Bn served in Europe starting with their landing on Utah Beach on June 30, 1944, and most of the unit left Europe from Le Harve, France in July, 1945. They barely avoided capture at the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944. I have the following on Reginald W Guthrie: serial number 6967324 county/state at time of enlistment Walker/AL place of enlistment Ft Bragg, NC date of enlistment 6/7/46 native state AL birth year 1917 possible last known location Charleston, Charleston, SC possible birth date 1/2/1917 possible death date 9/17/1995 possible state issued SSN GA possible 1930 census location Yellow Shanks, Walker, AL possible 1930 census native state AL possible 1930 approximate birth year about 1916 There were about 500 men in the battalion, and I started with a roster of the battalion that had been developed some years ago by living veterans at the time. I have first names, middles initials, and last names on most of the men. There are some with no middle initial and a few where all I've got is a last name. I have the county/state of origin at the time of enlistment in the Army only if it is shown above. I do have all the data I can gather from the Social Security Death Index, the 1930 Census, the NARA AAD database, and the Registry page of the National World War 2 Memorial web site. In all of these sites, I usually get multiple listings for any name I enter, so that by itself doesn't always narrow my search to an individual. I have many letters out to people based on the little information I do have for a growing number of the names on my roster. Addresses for those people were taken from Internet "White Pages." My real interest is where are these men today? And in cases where the veteran

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IBh.2ACIB/1253 Message Board Post: Still looking for information on Rev. George Guthrie and Nancy Smith. They married possibly in NJ around 1786. Where George went to help establish the Northfield Baptist Church. By 1792, they had moved to Pendleton County, Wva. Where they entered into several land transactions and he perfromed several marriages. They had eleven to thirteen children. They moved out of the county by 1811 (this is where I lost them) Is ANYONE out there looking at this family?? According to a church history written about the Northfield Church, it was stated that George Guthrie was a minister from KY, who returned to KY, and was later killed by lightening while riding his horse. Any, clues to this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Cindy cfowler3@tampabay.rr.coom
