Perhaps the girl he married was a widow with a child on the way. It was not uncommon back then for widow or widower to marry immediately after the death of a husband or wife for practical reasons. A farmer could not work his fields and take care of children, especially a newborn and very few women were in a position to not need a husband to provide for them.

Personal information about each soldier, generally giving birthplace, age and place of enlistment. Some photos, a biography for a Benjamin Guthrie. Good site. http://www.1stalabamacavalryusv.com/

All of my family is from Lamar County, Texas, but unfortunately everyone but my 89year ol mother is deceased. She has told me what she can remember, but she says she doesnt remember her Grandfather Richards saying who is parents were or where he was from. This info come to me thru another email. Do you know if any of the Guthrie girls marrying a Richardson. This has been a dead end for me for almost 20 years. Would appreciate any and all help possible. Merry Christmas BJ Black Heckman

I'm looking for a male descendant of Charles Guthrie who lived for a time in Halifax, Co., VA and moved with his family to Kentucky about 1830. I would like to get a descendant of Charles through one of his son's Jesse, Asa or Joel to volunteer to take a DNA test. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
New DNA test results show that Larry Guthrie and Lem Guthrie have a perfect 12/12 match. This shows they definitely have a common ancestor. About a 70% chance the common ancestor was within 250 years. A test upgrade by Lem should increase this probability. Lem's ancestry is very likely through Henry Guthrie born about 1726 to John and Mary Shay Guthrie. Henry married Penelope Johnson. My ancestry is very likely through Garrett born about 1724 to John and Mary Shay Guthrie. Nathaniel may have married a Mann sometime about 1785 and second Fanny Link 1798. I am looking for Guthrie's with possible ties to Henry and Penelope Johnson for possible further DNA testing. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
Seeking information about Robert McWhirter Guthrie born circa 1876 in Liverpool, son of Thomas Guthrie and Jane McWhirter. In 1901 he was recorded as a bank inspector in Nottingham. A letter dated 1923 reports him as being a banker in Birmingham. Any additional information appreciated Douglas McWhirter Toronto, Canada
I've lost the reference the following came from and don't remember the exact dates of actual county formation, but... The "counties" that made up the old 96 district of South Carolina, which included Abbeyville, Union, Spartenburg and several others were not true counties until sometime after 1800. The names were just geographical areas. They were not judicial areas. All county business had to be done in Charleston. I understand that is where the records of this area remain to this day. So if you looked in a county for records of your Guthrie and didn't find them, perhaps you need to look in the Charleston records. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
