I have a posting on this board Sept 27. I have run across at least 2 lines of Guthries not connected to my line. It seems your Henry CLay doesn't fit the time frame. Almost all the sons of my Henry were in the Civil War and most in the Army of TN. What states are you looking at and what other Guthrie info do you have? I am dead ended on my Henry Guthrie when he was born in 1812 in Newton Co., GA. morrisgu@bellsouth.net

I only have information of his birth from a family history from the Washington Co, IN genealogy society and the Census, and his death date is a little vague also. He died some time between 1872 and 1874.

My John Guthries had the middle initial L. and H. They were all from that Berrien/Coffee/Atkinson county, too, but even Elizabeth's name is nothing I have seen. Will let you know if something does arise. Seems too close not to have a connection, but right now, I just don't see any. Sorry!

They were from Berrien Co. and then moved to Coffee and Atkinson Counties later on. Do these names ring a bell? Thanks!

I was recently given the following info on an ancestor of mine and want to ask any of you if you have ever come across someone who might be this Peter - especially in relation to the east coast ports of the US, or anywhere else, for that matter. The reference comes from the shipping returns for the port of St George's, Grenada (an island in the West Indies which imported goods from the USA - at least from the late 1820s onward) held in the Public Record Office in the UK. In January 1812, Peter was listed as the master of the 53-ton sailing vessel "Two Brothers" (built at Argyle, Nova Scotia in 1800 and said to "belong to America")which arrived carrying a cargo of 20,000 wooden staves. By December that same year, he had apparently become part owner of this vessel (that he was still skippering). He later seems to have left the sea and settled in Grenada, becoming quite a prosperous merchant, if one is to judge by the frequency of ads he placed in the local paper, and the number of real estate transactions (deeds in the Court Registry) that bear his name. He was a member of the Grenada House of Assembly, a lieutenant in and adjutant of the St George's Regimant of the Militia, and a Commissioner of Roads. He sat for a portrait in oils; an extremely lifelike painting, it shows him relaxed but alert, wearing a white waistcoat under a dark jacket and looking every bit the well-groomed, prosperous businessman. I can e-mail this to anyone who is interested. I have not been able to trace a will made by Peter, and I have no exact dates or places of birth/death - only estimates. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards to all listers. Philip Bellamy (Trinidad, W.I.)
Karen, Talmadge does not exist in the part ofmy line I have any info on. Most of my Cullman ancestors were in the Baileyton area East of Cullman. Most are burried there. Not sure where Brenen is located. Also, what time period are you interested in. The oldest info I have is 1st half of 1800. Morris
