I am taking my info from an LSU study on the Civil War and their information my have been incorrect. I don't recall exactly what Robert Guthrie's middle initial was on the grave stone (if there was one at all). Robert Burns Guthrie, son of James Smith & Lethe (Burns) Guthrie, was born in Alabama 1 Oct 1831. He was living in Santa Ana California in 1900. His wife died there in May 1907. Known children: Mary Eudora Guthrie, Sarah Emma Guthrie, James E. Guthrie, Vienna E. Guthrie, Rose Guthrie and Robert E. Lee Guthrie. Robert's father, James Smith Guthrie, was a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister born in TN. He married Lethe Burns after moving to Alabama. The family moved West to Texas where Robert married Nancy Killian in Rusk, TX.

My Guthrie ancestors migrated to Lamar Co, TX in the 1870s from Tippah Co, MS. Thomas Madison Guthrie was listed in the 1850 and 1860 census with wife Elizabeth and 8 children in Tippah Co, MS. Thomas and wife Elizabeth were born in NC, but I have no further information other than the names of his parents: John Nelson Guthrie and Catherine Lowe. My great grandfather Miles Jefferson Guthrie was born in MS in 1854, and moved to TX about 1877. My paternal grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Guthrie, his daughter, was born 1873 in MS. She married John Calhoon Young in 1894 in Lamar Co. TX. Do you have information on the NC Guthries?
