False alarm in last email: Franklin G. Guttery m. Caroline Madison this is not the family of William Franklin Guthrie and Caroline Bailey. Sorry lguthrie@brightok.net
Since I didn't see a name in this post I'll leave part of it here for identification purposes. And I'm going to post to the board since I think this information will be useful to more than one person. When the surname is spelled Guttery and any are found in mid to east Alabama(including Cullman County) Mrs. McQueen Guttery's book seems to be the place to start. Guthrie and Guttery and Allied Families compiled by Mrs. John McQueen Guttery, Jasper, Alabama 1956. The book is out of print and I don't know where a copy can be had. I found mine in the Oklahoma Historical Society Library. I think many large genealogical libraries will have the book. It is typewritten and memeographed. Not good enough copy to be scanned and OCR'ed. There is also no index. That being said I did a quick biological scan and found the following. Mrs. McQeeen Guttery stated that the Guthrey's in Cullman Co., (Alabama) decend from David Guthrey of Cherokee Co. Since Walker Co., Georgia joins Cherokee Co., Alabama could be of the same family (as hers). I also found the following which is apparently the William Franklin Guthrie the researcher below is looking for. "The Caroline Guttery mentioned here was the wife of Franklin Guttery who was a son of John Guttery and wife Mary Rutledge and John Guttery was the third child of William and Hannah Guttery who came to Alabama about 1820" orrisgu@bellsouth.net you need to email me directly. Hello List Can anyone help with information on Thomas Guthrie, master mariner, who was born in Newcastle, England, in 1815. I have information from the Lloyds 1869 resister but nothing since. He was married to Ann Lloyd in Liverpool 17th April 1841 by licence. Tania
While it is good to keep a query short and succinct it would be helpfull to me if dates were included in the query. A query such as "James Guthrie father of William married to Elizabeth" is not of much use. Without a date and a place it would be very hard to make a connection. A short paragraph containing all the information known would enable me to be much more helpful. Especially dates, all places they lived, siblings, etc. Also some of you are asking for information for folks that lived in the 20th century. And that's OK, but you might be able to find more information faster using the census records and public records. For instance if the person had a Social Security Card, the application generally lists the parents names. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net

I'm planning a trip to North Carolina for the end of summer, primarily for Guthrie genealogy research. I would appreciate any comments on where to look for records. I believe my ancestor's lived in what is now the Caswell/Person Co., area, but plan to also search on the state level. Also any good (inexpensive not cheap) ideas on where to camp in a MH in North Carolina. Will need a place with electricity. My two cats like the AC. I live in Oklahoma and will probably be on I-40 for most of the trip. I would also appreciate any tips on campsites along that route. Larry lguthrie@brightok.net
