In case you're still looking there are at least two references to Gid in the book "Old Trail Drivers of Texas". Gid was a trail boss for herds from Texas to the railroads in Kansas etc. The 101 brand in Texas was registered to R.S. Guthrie, Gid's father. There's a story abt. the 101 saloon in Ft. Worth & a brawl by Gid's men who were driving a herd for the Miller Bros. ranch in northern I.T. They road branded the herd 101 & that became the Millers 101 ranch.
