Surnames: Guthrie Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.families.aol.com/mbexec/msg/4300/IBh.2ACIB/639.650.2 Message Board Post: Hello, My name is Amanda Gail Guthrie (Guthrie is my maiden). The John Paul Guthrie that you have posted is my grandfather. I attended his 100th birthday party in Louisiana. My mother was married to Toney Guthrie, my father. Toney Guthrie is the son of John Paul Guthrie. Toney Guthrie is deceased. John Paul Guthrie's SSN is 434-48-4779 it was issued in Ardmore or Carter Oklahoma. My mother told me that indeed John Paul Guthrie fathered 21 children and was married 3 times. I know three of his childrens names, Toney, James, Christine and there may have been a child named Paul. Social Security Administration records indicate that John Pauls date of birth was 11-6-1866 and his date of death was 12-19-1968. I think perhaps you may be a half-sister of mine. (if your father was Toney Guthrie). I know I have several half brothers and sisters living in Louisiana. They are; Mark (deceased), Cindy, Gail, Joe, I believe there is also a Carrie and a Wanda and some that I can't remember their names. I have met Cindy and Joe. Last I knew, Cindy lived in Shreveport. If John Paul Guthrie was your Grandfather and your father is not Toney Guthrie, then you would be a cousin. email me back at zshooie@aol.com or gmrkj@aol.com and let me know who your father is. Take care, Amanda

Records of the Guthrie Family, Pennsylvania, Conneticut, and Virginia, by Harriet A. and Eveline Guthrie Dunn, published in 1898. Will do lookups.                                                             Dann in San Fran >>>>> Gee Dann, You get your hands on a lot of neat books. Where do you find them? I have a close friend who is from the GUITHRIES of Halifax County, Virginia, where she was born. Is there much information on them in the book? I downloaded all the Guthries from Halifax Cty. that the LDS site has in their census records. My friend's grandfather's name is Alonzo GUTHRIE, but I haven't found him yet, and I was given information about an Alonzo born in North Carolina, so I may be looking in the wrong place for him. She had never heard that he was from North Carolina, so I am not sure where to begin. They say "start with what you know", and I don't know much, but if this book has a lot of info on the Halifax County GUTHRIES, I would try to find a copy. Thank you for posting and offering to do lookups. Good luck in your research. The 1850 Census from Drew County, AR, has him listed with Mary E. (wife), Samuel, Francis, Martha, Pleasant R., James P., Manda J. Thomas, John and William L. The 1850 census from Smith County, MS, has him with Mary (wife), Samuel, Francis, Martha, Ransom, and Eliza. Above them is listed Francis Guthrie, Catherine (wife), Eliza, and Jane. I am presuming that they are his parents. The census lists the birthplace for Francis and John as GA.
