    3. Hi all You have probably read that Rootsweb is removing the Mailing List feature on 2nd March 2020. You will no longer be able to subscribe or send messages to the GURR-UK list. The archives will be kept on Rootsweb for you to view. A new group has been set up on groups.io, a similar but better mailing list. The group is called GURR-UK and you can subscribe at https://groups.io/g/GURR-UK Hope to see you there. Regards David Banks, ex-moderator of the Rootsweb GURR-UK mailing list

    3. Hi I am new to this list and have recently been given some new information which I have not been able to complete. I have just applied for my 2 x great grandmother's birth certificate to hopefully confirm her mothers maiden name. ELizabeth Gurr b Dec 1837 so only just after the regitrations came into force. Her parents are Henry Reeves Gurr b1803 and Elizabeth b 1808 Macclesfield Cheshire The new information I have bee given is that Henrys sibling Stephen b 1805 has a wife Mary b 1811 Macclesfield Cheshire. I am suggesting that these 2 wives may be sisters but I dont have the resources to look into it any further. I suspect that ELizabeth's maiden name is BACK but as I say I am waiting to confirm with the birth certificate.

    3. Hi List, I am looking for information on Henry Gurr born around 1845 Isfield Sussex. My Gurrs nearly all came from East Sussex but my GGGrandfather Henry a train driver moved in the late 1800s with the new railway. He is shown living in Tonbridge Wells, Brighton and I believe Beckenham Kent. In the 1891 census Henry with wife Ruth are living in Brighton with 10 of their 11 children. In the 1901 census I cannot find him but I can find a Ruth with some children of the same name living in Beckenham. Is there anybody with knowledge of this family I am particularly interested in Charles born 1881 but any of the family would be of interest. Regards Colin BC Canada

    3. Hi all Just thought I would list my connections with the GURR name, particularly in East Sussex. I am connected in a number of ways - my gt-grandfather Charles BANKS married Jane GURR in 1865, I am connected to another branch via my grandmother who was Daisy JONES, her mother was Caroline MATTHEWS and I am connected that way to William GURR bp 1802 and via the PATTENDENS to the Pevesney branch of BANKS via Elizabeth GURR bp 1821. The oldest GURR I have is William bn abt 1667. My current brickwall is William GURR bn 1802 m Jane GURR bn abt 1825 in Chiddingly in 1857, I have his ancestors but not hers. I have a full tree to view as a web page, please email me off list and I will send you the address. Regards David Banks

    1. [GURR-UK] Gurr Family in India
    2. Mary-Lynn Cullinane
    3. Hello out there, my branch of the GURR family left England, some time in the 19th c to work for the Great Indian Peninsula Railway. Some members of the family were still there at the time of Partition but my great grandfather George James Lamont GURR (wasn't it kind of his godparents to give him three names) left India at the beginning of the 20th c and settled in Dunedin, New Zealand. GJL died in 1906 his widow Eliza MAYNARD in 1940. GJL's father was a George GURR born 1 April 1827 in the City of London. He married Elizabeth LAMONT on 28 July 1850 at Paddington St James, London. His father, birthdate unknown, was also George GURR who married Mary Ann AVERY. I have no further information. However the descendants of George GURR and Elizabeth LAMONT are mostly in touch around the world and there are quite a large number of us. Last year my researches found 240 descendants of just GJL GURR and Eliza MAYNARD and there are a few more still to be found. It will be most interesting to pursue this particular GURR line and find where its genesis is in England. Mary-Lynn CULLINANE, Ruakaka, New Zealand.

    3. I have been using the Paffile downloaded from the LDS website. I was going to print an ahnentfel which has 9 generations but the print preview shows each generation ona seperate sheet of paper. Is there a way of compressing this as some geerations i only have 2 or 4 names which seems silly to use a whole sheet.
