    1. [Guatemala] MAKEPEACE family in Guatemala 19th C.
    2. David
    3. Hello listers - I'm researching some UK ancestors who appear to have gone to Guatemala probably in the 1860/70 period. Joshua MAKEPEACE was baptised January 1804 in his native Allendale, Northumberland (in northern England). I have followed him and his family through various Census entries - by the 1851 Census he had moved across the border into Scotland. His occupation always seems to have been an Agent, or a Lead Agent, so involved in mining in one way or another. I believe that he is the Joshua MAKEPEACE who is reported in an English newspaper to have died in Guatemala on 7th April 1866. One of his sons was also called Joshua and he was born in County Durham (England) in January 1839. In October 1888 he married (as a widower) in Scotland but gave his address as Guatemala and his occupation as Coffee Planter. In October 1896 he died in Scotland - his address then was given as "Tumbador-department, San Marcos, Guatemala". Does anyone here have any information on the MAKEPEACE family? Is there any way I can find more information on where Joshua senior may have been buried? Are there any records of UK coffee planters in the country? Regards - David Buckinghamshire England

    3. Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are managed by list robots. These robots take care of subscription requests and bouncing (rejected) emails. The most frequently asked question of subscribers is: ***************** "Why have I been unsubscribed?" Answer: If your list mail cannot be delivered for any reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after a certain number of failed attempts. (For the GUATEMALA list the maximum member bounce score is: 3) This can happen for a number of reasons - some of the more common reasons are that your mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic responder on your email.... If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe again. However be forewarned that if whatever caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the first time is still happening, it will simply remove you again after a specific number of bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email address). But as a courtesy to all GUATEMALA listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just let me know. ****************** Other questions asked are: "How do I unsubscribe?" Answer: Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of every list mail message. ****************** "Why is my mail not getting to the mailing list?" Answer: Make sure that you are sending from the same email you are subscribed under. The list robot does not recognize names. It only recognizes email addresses. If your sending email address is not on the subscriber list, your email will be rejected. ****************** "Why am I not getting list mail?" Answer: Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box for announcements about any technical problems with Rootsweb mail. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ If you don't find the answer to your problem on the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are still subscribed to the list. You can get a list of all your subscribed to mailing lists from Password Central: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ If Password Central doesn't include all lists to which you should be subscribed, re-subscribe to any lists that are missing from your subscribed lists by sending a new e-mail to: LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com (replacing the word LISTNAME with the actual list name). Put only the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and message body of your e-mail. ****************** Should anyone need further elaboration then you may give me a contact. --Manaia [List-Admin] GUATEMALA-admin@rootsweb.com My gratitude to Lorine McGinnis Schulze for sharing.

To subscribe in Digest mode: GUATEMALA-D-request@rootsweb.com. To send a message/post to the List: GUATEMALA@rootsweb.com. >>>>>> FYI Only <<<<<< Mode = manner/method/way. There are two modes in which to subscribe: 1. The -L mode and now the "regular" mode. All regular subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as separate/individual emails. 2. The -D mode and now the "digest" mode. All digest subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as one BIG email. If you previously subscribed to the list in both -L and -D modes using the same email address, you will find that you are *no longer* subscribed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes. 1. [Guatemala] Looking for Death Record - Julieta (Julita) Servin, also known as Julieta Godman.
    2. J. Fox
    3. I am looking for the death record, or any other records or information, regrading Julieta (Julita) Servin, also known as Julieta Godman. This much I know: She was born in San Miguel de León, Guanajuato, Mexico, on 30 July 1883. She moved to Guatemala about 1921, with her common-law husband, William Godman (W.E. Godman). She was living in Guatemala City in 1934, at the time of her husband's death, and may have been in a mental hospital or sanitarium, as she was noted at the time as being "demented" at the time of her husband's death. Any help in finding some records or further information would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Jon
