There is no proof that Simon Gross's father was a Phillip Gross - this rumor got started when someone put this information in an LDS file confusing Simon with a french family of Grosses...this is incorrect. We have a small clue from a Groce family Bible later down the line that Simon's father's first initial was P. This is more likely to be Peter because of the naming patterns in the family....there are many Peter Gross/Peter Groce down the line in this line of Grosses but not a single Phillip. This "clue" which is all it is at this point also said that Simon Gross may have come from Switzerland from area between Canton Bern and Zurich from a small town called Zurnach...this is also unproven and unverfied after some search there by an American Gross cousin who lived in Germany at the time. He is however the Simon Gross who came over on the ship "Europa" along with his brother Theobald Gross. Veronica Mayer was his second wife, after first wife Dorothea (surname unknown) died abt. 1745. I have quite a bit more information on the family and would be happy to share what I have with anyone on the list.
