Gross He was supposidly born in harlan co. Ky around 1932 and died in ohio around 1972. I looked but couldn't find a birth cert. for him being in harlan co. Ky. His mothers name would have been haley or hallie? But what I did find was a Earnest Gross born in harlan co. Ky around 3-1-31 or 4-1-31 born to a Hallie Gross from harlan. That date would be an exact year before my grandfather was to be born. I don't know if someone has found a certificate for him or not but if anyone does then please let me know. Because I have a few theories of my own. The first being either hallie wasn't his mother or he had a older brother that no one was told about or his name isn't james and if earnest...but I don't see the last one happening. By looking at his picture and then looking at a picture of his father and of his mothers mother and brother he doesn't look anything like them. He was a dark skinne! d man from what I see in the pic and of what my father tells me and none of the people in the pictures are anywhere close to being as dark as he is. So I don't know if he was maybe adopted or what. But if anyone has proof of anything please get ahold of me through email so I can stop worrying about it. I would be doin this myself but our geneaology dept. is down and closed until after feb. And it being the 2nd biggest and best in the united states I'm sure I couldn't get it there....Any help or knowledge is very much appreciated! Happy Holidays to everyone!

There are more than one man by this name in the general Ohio area. Before I can be sure which one, I must retrieve copies of the birth certificates or marriage licenses. I will be looking into this in a couple of weeks. Have you tried: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp ? They have the 1880 census online, as well as some other helpful information. I will let you know what I find out! Laura

The Handbook of Texas, 1952 edition, by the TX State Historical Assn. has this item: Grossville, Texas, in Mason Co., was established in 1859 and originally called High Point. The community was later named Simonsville for Peter Simon. Still later Simonsville was extended to the ranch of Louis Gross, and the settlement became known as Grossville. In 1947 a school and a community hall were located in Grossville, which has its greatest activity during deer hunting season. Emma Gene Gentry EmmaGene@GentrySoft.com
