I am a descendant of this line through June Pinkney Gross, he would have been my GGrandfather.
I am at a dead end with my Gross line. ( Martin Gross, Pittsburgh PA born 1873 to Martin Gross b. 1851 ? and Mary Katherine Barthel/ Bartel ?) How does one go about getting Census images? Cheap vs. easy? I am on a budget and don't want to use one of the pay genealogy sites. After all it IS public information. My local history center may have them. I want to try and get what I need in one or 2 visits and was wondering if there are any tips to finding what I need quickly. What should I know already and have with me when I go? Change for copy/microfilm machines is a given but any other useful tips? Thanks. Gina Gross

Let me make sure I have this straight. Elizabeth Gross married John. G. South, probably in Pennsylvania, moved to Ohio (where?) and on to Michigan (where?). Her last known child was born in 1852 and she is NOT in the 1860 census for Michigan. Is her husband listed? Where do her kids show up later on? Have you run them through FamilySearch?

I don't know much about my grandma's side of the family. From what I understood she (my grandma, Morine Baker) married a Elisha Gross (Not even sure if Elisha is spelled correctly), he was supposedly killed in a coal mine and that would have roughly been around or after 1937.

Gross for the given birth year. I have called the kentucky vital statistics and was told that if he did have his name changed it would have either had to be put in by the midwife or he or who ever changed it would have had to get a court order which would be on file. I am going to look in on this as far and as much as possible to get all of this figured out. Because at this point my family tree has ceized to exisist past my father. Any replies are welcomed.
