I'm at a "dead end" on Anna "Barbara" GROPP (or GROB or a half dozen other spellings) born: 6 Oct 1820 around Neckarhausen, Baden, Germany died :22 Mar 1887 around Edingen, Baden, Germany She married Johann Georg JUNG. Mr. JUNG was born 25 Mar 1820 in Edingen, Baden, Germany and died 4 Dec 1899 in Hebron, North Dakota, USA. So far I haven't been able to figure out anything about her. I've been to the Mormon website looking for any GROB family in that area to attempt to reconstruct some kind of family in the area to launch an investigation on my third great grandmother. So far, I have quite a few GROBs in that immediate area, but I haven't yet been able to piece together the GROB families there. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks. Rich Hollenbeck
Is the 'B' in GROB really the German letter 'ß' that represents a double 'S' (SS) in English? If so, then the name could be spelled GROSS? I'm doubting that because if it were 'SS', then I don't understand why some of the family spelling their names GROPP, GROEB, etc. Is this correct? How do Germans pronounce the name? How do Americans and other English speaking-folks pronounce it? I obviously never met my great great great grandmother or else I would have asked her. Thanks. Rich Hollenbeck
