Rootsweb has upgraded the software that runs RootsWeb Mailing Lists to Mailman 3.0. The interface is different than what you are used to, but it is more secure and we hope you will enjoy using it. Rootsweb removed all the existing passwords when they updated the system, but not the email addresses. Some of you may never have had a password, but you will find the system easier to use if you set one. The upgraded system has a completely different interface. If you have not re-registered your account since March 1st, you will need to re-register your account. Your old login will not work. http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/listsHelp To better understand the new system, Rootsweb recommends that you download PDF documents you will find at: http://bit.ly/RootsWebDocs Jim YoungList Admin
Rootsweb's Listmaster communicated the following to List Administrators: "In recent months the methods we have used for the last few years have increasingly blocked the valid postings of subscribers to mailing lists. One of the reasons this has happened is that one of the services we use that identifies and blacklists IP Addresses that are used to send spam has been identifying computers that are hijacked by Trojans that use the computer's email account to send spam. Those IP addresses may also be used by email service providers to send the email from the subscribers to your lists. Thus good email is blocked until the email service provider clears the problem with the blacklisting service. We have temporarily suspended our use of one these services, provided by SORBS, while we try out other similar services and determine their effectiveness. This may result in an intermittent increase of spam that you need to handle for some of your lists. For your understanding, I will describe one method that allows some spam to get to your list's subscribers, where you may see an increase during our testing and recommend what actions you might take. Some of you have already seen this on your lists. The only method that allows spam to be sent directly to your subscribers though the list is if it is sent from a subscriber's email account and its content is not recognized as spam by our content filtering methods. A list subscriber's computer may be hijacked by a Trojan that sends spam through that computer's email account. Such spam often contains no subject or a simple non-descript subject, and the body of the message may contain only a link or a simple sentence with a link. The links appear to change from message to message, but typically lead to a page that will attempt attack the computer that is viewing it. The nature of the message makes it nearly impossible to trap the message of spam based on the content. Since the message comes from a subscriber to the list and appears to have valid content, it is sent directly to the subscribers." Therefore, since spam will surely be sent to the List from members having their computer hijacked by Trojans and will be distributed to subscribed members, the following action will be taken. 1. The member with the Trojan hijacked computer will be immediately moderated and notified by personal email. 2. The List will be placed on emergency moderation, as soon as possible, for a few days to prevent further discussion of the spam message. All valid List messages will be approved for distribution to subscribed members. 3. The Rootsweb Listmaster will be requested to delete the spam message(s) from the list archives. Happy Huntin' Jim Young

Malinda Jackson died in 1850 when the youngest daughter would have been 14. I feel he stayed in the area since her son Thomas had a son named Emory C who died in Schley county. Schley is close to Merriwether county. Her parents were Coleby and Elizabeth. He was born in North Carolina. She was born in Germany. Emory C's grand son is my grandfather, Lester Coleby Grimsley.
