Carol, Do you have anything else on Persis? I checked the 1880 census and there is no Persis Griffith. There is a Persis COLTON which located in MA. and 77 yrs old at the time. (be too old for Persis Griffith) I also found a Carolyn Noble married to a Eastman Griffith who had a daughter Mrs. Persis F. Griffith and married a Melville Strong.
